big giant hard drive

so business is picking up. we're doing 5-10 TV spots per month and it looks like we'll be racking up well over 1 terabyte per year if the trend continues.

we're shooting in 24p on both the HVX and DVX and we're editing in Vegas on a brand new PC running (unfortunately) Vista. we're not yet shooting HD but will be soon.

i tried searching for "hard drive" and "storage" but didn't find much. any advice on storage? how much am i gonna have to spend? anybody got any good links?

thanks!

Also costco.com
They are pretty much price performance leaders in the computer gear arena, in So Fla.

wow you guys were right. just got a 320gig Maxtor for $100. if it works well i might just buy a few more of em. thanks!

if you're looking for big storage, the more you invest the more you get. one terabyte external storage solutions are generally cheaper than buying enough hard drives to equal a terabyte.

a 320 gig hard drive for 100 bucks doesn't ring reliability IMO. Go pick up a nice tape backup system and you'll be better off.

I'm with tommyinla - Disk is good, but make sure that you've got a backup plan
RAID is good, external tape backup is even better (although not as easily accessable) :)

Ah, I remember the days when an AVID had rows of towers that took up as much space as a washing machine and with that you only got like 32 gigs...I just saw a FRY'S ad for a triple interface 1.5 terabyte Maxtor drive for 399. In a few years we'll probably have hard drives with more storage capacity than your brain. Love Moore's Law.
