Big Difference in 2 gig Ram card?

I went ahead and added more muscle to my computer. I have a Dimension E510 with cual core, 2.8ghz and 1 gig of ram. Last night I added another gig but I'm not noticing a big difference in real time when previewing my video in Good/Auto. It's almost as choppy as before. Am I missing something? I have added 4-5 filters to my clip but I thought that with this much Ram I could get away with it.

You may not notice a difference. At least for me, I found very little difference in preformance going from 1GB to 2Gb. I've found on my system the biggest issue to be getting fast HD performance. This probably depends on the file format you are using. I use mostly uncompressed AVI, which means I need a lot of fast disc access and very little processor hit as there's no compression.

Adding a separate and fast drive with nothing but my video data on it made a big difference for me.

I'm planning on doing HD editing in the near future as soon as I can get Raylight. In the meantime, standard digital is still too choppy. I wonder if it has to do with my virtual pagefile size. I also notice that Vegas starts running slower after it has been on for a while. If I turn the computer on and only open Vegas then it works well. Once I have had the comp on for a couple of hours, even with everything else closed, it starts to drag. Maybe if I start playing the theme to "Chariots of Fire" it will get a second wind.

setup a raid to limit disk thrashing. This will give you much fuller throughput!

At the risk of sounding ignorant could you tell me how to do this? I'm not sure I understand.
