Bezier masks?

Can some one help me out with the Bezier masking....I mean I just can't figure out how to create a mask so I can apply an effect to that certain part I select. Whenever I mask something..then say I try to use a blur effect on the background...it just blurs the whole picture like it would normally do...what do I do?

Re: Bezier masks?

ok first I would click on video event pan-crop...I would then select the mask box...then I would select the anchor creation tool...and then I would select an area I want the effect applyed too.

Once I've selected it...I would then click on video FX and drag an effect to the clip. but the effect would be applied to everyhting in the clip instead of the part I just selected.

Re: Bezier masks?

What effect did you apply? I just tried what you did and applied affects -- no problems . . . EXCEPT with the Film Effects templates -- for some reason, it applies it to the entire frame. HOWEVER, the effect is transparent and the lower track can still be seen through the mask.

Re: Bezier masks?

I just tried different blur effects...I was testing out how to make a DOF. But it would always blur the subject when I only wanted the background blurred

Re: Bezier masks?

You have to have a track underneath it cause bezier is basically cutting out parts of your image. So place the same track under it, remove any masks and apply the blur effect.

Re: Bezier masks?

Once you apply the bezier mask, if there's no track underneath, everything except the part you select should be transparent, so it will turn black (revealing the black of the timeline underneath.

Are you trying to do this all on one track? That won't work.

Any chance of posting a few screen grabs of the steps you took?

Re: Bezier masks?

Track 1 - Video clip with bezier mask applied
Track 2 - Same video clip without mask.

Then you could keyframe your blur back and forth to create your depth of field or simulated rack focus.
