Beware with Blackmagic products!!!

We are having issues with a Blackmagic card and a HDlink converter for a while.
After many phone conversations and several tests trying to establish the cause of our problems all the directions suggest the issue is with their product. There're very little commitment from their part to solve this asap.
We're still in the middle of this process, but I would like to say a thing or two here to express my frustration.
Before we decided to go with Blackmagic to monitor or project (shot at 720 24pn) I've talked to many vendors, peers, etc..., read as much as I could and did my homework. Many people told me to go with AJA, mentioning the excellent suppport, superior product etc... But unfortunately to save $ we did otherwise.
Now I understand waht we're dealing with it.
So beware!!!

I have used both products and I do use and own an HD Link. I went with the Kona 3 largely based upon my experiences with both company's support over the past five years. I produced an animated project with five animators using Aja cards and I had two BMD systems for a TV Pilot I shot a couple of years ago.

Bottom line - both products are fine. Aja has superior support. I had a K3 box go down a couple of months ago, Aja's main concern was overnighting me a new one to keep the project going, they said, "here's an RA number, return the defective K3 when you can".

That, to me, what the best service one could ever hope for. All other things being equal, service and support is the most important reason to buy any product these days.

Good luck with getting your problem solved, I hope that you do so soon.

I've had a couple of problems with BM cards, and I have to say I wasn't impressed by their support, but things eventually got resolved. It sounds like this is a more serious problem, and when you combine that with their lack of concern or commitment, that's deadly. You have my sympathy.

I'd be interested to know what kind of problem are you having?

I "here's an RA number, return the defective K3 when you can".

That's what I would like to hear. But even after weeks of conversation and tests, we actually got the opposite.
They don't want to take any return unless they're absolutely sure there's a problem!!!
NOT HAPPY!

Alex.

It could be worse... it could be JVC support you're dealing with. Then it would be hours of waiting in queues, getting disconnected before speaking to somebody- who is just going to put you in another queue or give you a phone sex number... Either way, thanks for the warning.

As I mentioned in another forum section, my BM Intensity Pro card has failed to get sync on a Sony monitor for at least a month now. After numerous calls, cablles, emails, I finally sent it back to them for inspection. It's either a bad card or a bad breakout cable that comes with the card. Will report when I get it back.

Another day and the same old story...
They keep getting back at settings, footage, etc... when clearly at this point the issue is with either the card or the HDLink.
Anyway, my suggestion remains go for AJA.
