Beware Chinese Cokin Forgeries. They suck piles.

Just received a set of ND's, ND Grads, Holder and Hood stated as 'Cokin P' (except for the filters which are stated as "third party").

I bought them from Ebay thinking they were coming to Munich from Bonn which is what is stated as the location. In fact I had to wait ages for them to come from HK. I have no choice but to use them. The filters which are the main issue are useable once you can force them into the ill fitting holder (careful you don't slice your fingers off. The rest is utter junk. Cheap glossy plastic which has shrunk so much after moulding that it only just stays whole after bein forced together.

I am annoyed as Cokin are not exactly expensive and would not bother trying to find rip-offs in any case.

Just be alert for rip-offs which are not always easy to spot.

i have purchased 2-3 knock off super cheap ebay Cokin mounts, adapters and hoods. None of them have ever been a problem for me. Sometimes the filter tray is a little snug but it works ok. I prefer them because even the legitimate cokin mounts feel pretty flimsy to me so i figure i might as well get it cheap and have 2 in my bag because no matter what i am going to break it. granted i have been using the Cokin style system for many years without breaking any of it but still.

That being said glass is obviously a very integral part of producing your image.

Check local camera stores for used cokin mount filters, thats where i have found most of mine for pretty cheap.

Yeah. It's a complete ND solution for 26 euro which is OK.
I must have got a dodgy holder though. It's almost impossible to get the ND4 out after I managed to foorce it in.
It is also a bit naughty for them to claim to be in the same country. (I'd have been livid if I'd had to go to customs.)
I won't be happy 'til I've replaced the holder with Cokin. The Cokin hood I already had doesn't even touch both sides of the holder at the same time. Their glossy version looks brittle to me, as thick as it is.

Anyhow, not the end of the world.

To be honest, I have never considered original Cokin products to be anything to write home about. I personally would not buy them. When I bought an ND set for my current lenses I bought Tiffen filters. I think they are very well made and very much worth their price.
