I know someone that go t their film into the Beverly Hils Film Festival. I was wondering what level of a film festival are they? I think there is about 2000 film festival each year just in the USA. You have the Sundance and other upper level festivals and then you have the lower end guys.

She is hoping to meet some big wigs at the BHFF and maybe jump start what she love to do make films. Hmmmmmm I think we all love doing that.

Here in SoCal, we have a lot of film festivals each year. Can't say I've heard of BHFF as a big one, though. Never been to it.

EDIT: Interesting, I just got an email from a friend whose movie is in BHFF. I was actually involved with the production...hmmm. Same person? If it is, the film turned out pretty well. He had a cast of "known" actors, too.

that fest is bullshi*. search the boards on withoutabox for stories.

The only problem stories I see on the WAB forums involve being notified as to whether or not a submission has been selected.

That is, except for your post Zak, about how terribly you were treated at the festival. Can you elaborate here, so others don't have to go register at WAB and search through the posts to find it?

i would like to hear your experience, as i don't have an account at WAB and therefore can't view the forum.

I wasn't treated badly, I was just privy to the underlying purpose of the fest as a scam and money-grab. for example the audience award is determined by the founder of the fest who takes the audience votes, as he says, "into consideration" before giving it to his personal fav. in 2005, the audience award went to his friends, who he was seated with all night. the fest also charges you $350 each to attend your own awards dinner. screenings are not promoted by the fest and poorly attended. the only people that will show are people you invite. no one else attends this fest but the filmmakers and their guests.

wow, that sounds horrible. i should start up a scam like this in atlanta.

and i would recommend getting a WAB account so you can learn about the other fests like this. there are a lot and the forum there has saved me quite a few times from wasting submission fees on fests with bad reps

She said she received a call from Nino Simone the festival president and that her film was accepted in the festival before they even announced the selections. She was told by Nino that she was going to have an opportunity to sit with some super big names in the film industry including Quentin Tarantion and Jerry Bruckheimer. I hope she doesn't end up spending tons of $$$$ rushing to Hollywood and find herself well you know the story. Or maybe he is interested in just her - lets wine and dinner my sweetie :-) What do you guys think?

nice to see they lowered the prices but as an attending filmmaker, they really should be paying you to charge admision to a screening of your content, not taking even more money from you. I've never heard of a filmmaker being asked to pay to attend an awards banquet at any legit festival. just returned from sxsw and that definitely wasn't the case there.

and hey, i dont want to rain on anyone's parade. just manage your expectations for this fest. the screening afterparty I went to had about 12 people standing around on a patio. again, this was limited to the filmmakers and the people they invited. you're not going to meet anyone, i don't care how many pictures of jeremy piven they put on their web site. that "beverly hills theater" is a small screening room off wilshire blvd with no parking that seats about 100 people and rents for $400 a night. the pictures you are seeing is from their one centerpiece premiere that usually screens at the WGA. the year I went is was a film directed by david duchovny. that's where those red carpet photos come from. there won't be a red carpet, or any carpet, at your screening.

your better off buying a badge to a major festival that your NOT screening at and going to those parties. you'll meet tons of people that can help you. this was the key lesson of going to sxsw for me.
