The first one didn't peak my interest. This one, which shows a little gore and a little more Asia has made me plan to see it in the theatres as opposed to an on a whim rental.

gotta love the hand in the mouth(that's the clincher for me)

Well I dig 'em because I get to be enthusiastic about people blowing away other "people" ...and not feel guilty afterwards.

But then again, I'm Catholic :)

I personally like zombie movies because it is a horror movie that seems like it can really happen. horror movies with ghosts, and aliens or whatever always separate the viewer because in the back of your mind you always know, that could never happen. But people going crazy with some kind of strange dissease and eating other people, well you never know.
there is also something scary about knowing that if you are killed durring a zombie attack, then you become a zombie as well. I don't know if that is comforting or scary.

I don't understand why we need all the high-tech missles and explosions. It's like Michael Bay is attacking zombies. The best thing about the original "Night of the Living Dead" was it's simplicity. A few people trapped in a house. It was scary because they didn't have anything to defend themselves. Now we're all so desensitized we need screen candy to keep our attention.

John - You probably don't have the budget for large explosions and helicopters, so I would prefer to watch one of your zombie flicks. Now do it.

actually, it makes sense that its the guys with high tech missles, tanks, etc that are the only ones who can survive the zombie onslaught.

you saw it a little bit with day of the dead, in that the soldiers were basically the only thing protecting the scientists while they worked. Why? M16s and a fortified location.

So quibble all you want, I think its a natural progression.

EDIT:
Further more, you see the progression from the beginning. Night of the Living Dead featured zombies in the rural areas, first coming out. They were up against normal people who were mainly unarmed and had no concept of the zombie threat.

Dawn of the dead, already showed darwin hard at work, as the cops, and resourceful (see, helicopter pilot) reporters, were the ones to survive. Also, as you later found out, so did biker gangs with lots of organization and weaponry.

Day, furthered this even more showing that military might was nessecary, if misused and careless, to survival of the species. It makes perfect sense that in this last bastion of freedom, all man's tricks will be on display for surviving the zombie infestation. If you have 2 zombies coming at you, sure, a shovel or a hammer can kill them, (see dawn of the dead even), you have MILLIONS? A 9 milli or a pick axe isn't going to have much of an effect. Remember ALL humans are vastly outnumbered. Hell in day, he said its what, 450 thousand to ONE? **** that, I'd use missles too!

But the movies you just described aren't scary. My comments were about "what makes a movie scary?" Missles and M-16s against zombies doesn't send shivers down my spine. It's no contest (unless the zombies have a nuke). Being trapped in a house with no weapons is scary stuff. It's more real because that's where all of us would be. I think movies about Joe Public up against a thousand zombies is much more interesting than Vin Diesel and his whacky bunch of ex-Navy Seals going up against them. It worked for Signs (very well done) and it will work for War of the Worlds when it comes out. Joe Public against impossible odds. That's fun stuff!

I am digging both sides of this conversation. I actually thought Night, Dawn and Day we scary; of course I was a child when I saw them.

I agree; seeing Joe Public dealing with the issue is much more interesting than the Military or Government and in the LAND OF THE DEAD; the strong will suvive for sure. Strength can be in brawn and brain.
