his seems like a pretty good package for the price as I'm getting a t3i. Could I do better? I looked for used kessler on craigslist and nothing in my area. ebay doesn't have anything used either. gonna be getting the pocket dolly v2 as well, and will eventually want to upgrade to a motor control system.

im going to be shooting commercials and music videos and eventually short films. i figure this is a pretty flexible system that will do most anything i need.

thanks.

The KPod and Herc head are good value and VERY strong. Just realize it is a real monster to lug around so it isn't really suitable for daily use unless you have a pretty strong back. With regards to the crane, what you linked to is a really basic setup, and over time, you will probably want to flesh out your system with a control station, longer tips, brake, ball re-locator to name a few. So just realize your investment isn't finished unless you are satisfied with really simple.

I really like all the Kessler stuff I have purchased, it is nicely made and thought out for a mid-range price.

In a word, "isn't". The Herc, isn't a fluid head at all.

You can use the Herc head for panning, just don't expect it to be like a expensive fluid model. If you had a heavier cam, it would be OK, for a DSLR, you might want to buy a different head. The KPod has a 100mm bowl, so changing out the head is very easy to another head with 100mm or a 75mm with adapter. Realistically, the whole Kpod, as wonderful as it is for crane use, is pretty big for normal cam work.

If you want a dolly setup, the Kessler has dolly wheels for the KPod and can mount up a handle and seat which is very nicely done, and the trolley wheels are really top shelf.. So there are other ways to use the KPod.

personally i wouldnt use the Hercules head just as a camera head. from my experience its more intended to be use under a crane or PD as part of the support. it "wants" weight.
