Hello all, next week I expect to start beta testing the Reel-Stream.com un-compressed HD/SD output mod for the dvx100/100A...I must read my NDA before I can really talk much here. I thought someone here would like to hear about some results with this amazing system!

FYI I think the output will out perform the Panasonic VariCam in image quality both resolution and color depth. I have seen images from both.

more later if I can really talk about it here

keep your fingers crossed!

Obin's refering to the Andromeda mod that will allow the DVX to output 4:4:4 HD footage. Please keep us in the loop Obin!

Guys, this is the "MacGyvered" uncompressed hack for the original DVX100a camera which was announce by the Indiana based company Reel Stream at this years National Association of Broadcasters convention in April. The website is www.reel-stream.com and the results, while impressive, are still from a DVX100a. It is, in a manner of words, a technically up-rezzed form of HD. This should be included in the forthcoming Z1/HD100/HVX200 camera shootout later on this year. If you think so too, I'd write Jeremy at the address listed on their website.

Cheers.

Well Obin, you seem to have a pretty high opinion of the system having never used it, probably because you've already paid them $1500 to get a beta version and be a beta-tester, period. (see real-privilege.com)

So far as a parallel between "compressed video" and "painting with sticks and stones" ... I feel shooting video while being tethered to a computer being fairly archaic myself. That's what videotape was for. :) Just kidding.

Look forward to hearing your results and good luck!

Hey Obin, how much can you disclose about about the Andromeda? Can you post a grab or processed video? Also, what will you be using your altered dvx primarily for: green screen, short films, commercials, etc.?

Ive seen the frame grabs on the site, and they're good. However, I want to see the Andromeda in the wild. Im curious of Obins' opinion of the Andromeda's ease of use when shooting with it and compressing its video for editing. Also, I just want to see an opinion independent of Real-Stream's.

While my hunch is any beta tester of any product would be on lockdown the moment they sign a confidentiality agreement, there really needs to be a "ThinkSecret.com" kind of site for video industry insiders to distribute privileged information to the general public. Not!

Sorry for the "hijack" of this thread. Truth be told, I'm quite interested in seeing footage myself.

From the info I've seen the data stream is duplicated and one stream sent out via another firewire port as 4:4:4 with the second continuing on the original path to be compressed and sent to tape as usual.

I'm just courious to know what Panasonic, Sony, etc, thinks about all this. I'm intrested to know the final cost of this thing. My warranty expired already so I'm down for a HD tune up!

Im not sure, But i think the final price will be $2999.99. Alot to pay but worth it if the Andromeda is all Reel-stream claims it to be.

Show me the money. I've heard a lot of talk about this and no real moving images to date. Why would I spend 7k on a tethered version of the DVX when the HVX will offer a 4:2:2 option solid state with a Panasonic warranty?

This thing has taken waaaaaaaaaaay to long to remain relevant. Let's see it once and for all.

I think they should make one complete system available for the Z1/HD100/HVX200 comparison tests.
If not, then I don't ever want to hear about this ever, ever again.
