I am involved in the development of a new plugin for Final Cut (7/X).
It’s a tonality tuning plugin with some very nice highlight and shadow
recovery capabilities among other things. We are currently inviting
people (probably no more than 10 at this time) to participate in a
beta test of the product. Send me a private message if you are interested and tell me about your work.

WOW! this was quite a surprise. just downloaded the trial (watermarked) to see if it would run smoothly in RT in FCP7 and yes it does. as smooth as apple's 3 way color corrector which never causes any noticable playback stutters and this plug is basically just as transparent at not noticing that its been applied for RT playback. that was the most important factor to me and has passed wonderfully....and now it has my attention in a nice way.

the "highlight rescue" and the "shadow boost" remind very much like the shadow/highlight tool in adobe photoshop. this is very very useful. ive always envied what i could do to photographs with the S/H tool but not in FCP. this plug takes care of that. that by itself would have made this plugin worth it for me.

i have Red Giant's "Colorista II" and it is a very comprehensive plugin in many ways but...

1) it doesnt run in perfect RT on an 8 core macpro. when i say perfect RT i mean that i can see the playback stutter and strobe a bit so i cant/wont apply the plug until im done with the edit then apply to all the clips and render. i hate to do this, so many time i just still use the boring 3 way CC inside FCP7. i like to see some color corrections while editing which mostly leaves just the FCP7 3 way CC which is limiting and quite boring as well.

2) as much as Colorista II is a very powerful tool...its also a little tedious as to the depth of its layout and interface that i find myself avoiding it much of the time unless i really really need its control.

3) this new plug does some nice complimentary things compared to Colorista II.

4) highlight recovery and lifting shadows on the Tonalizer plug cant be done near as good on any other plugins ive seen or used so far. shooting much with a DSLR (canon) the shadows do tend to clog up much of the time even when shooting with cantrast all the way down in camera.

also like the fact that it works in all the FCP versions and Motion versions as well. cant beat that!

glad i stumbled on this thread. will buy this after the holidays when i get back to work.

im glad they had a demo for download.

*****HIGHLY RECOMMEDED
