hey guys, i have vegas pro 8 but i have a problem here. i'm trying to stream a 1 minute, 720p clip on my web site but it's not streaming. i'm rendering it as MP4.

it does not stream, the video only plays once it is completing finished downloading onto my computer and that is not what i want it to do. i want it to stream immediately. i've tried many different custom settings in the render options and i can't seem to make this work.

please, can somebody help me???

I suggest you load it via Flash. The *latest* version of Flash (you might have to download and install it), is able to playback h.264/AAC MP4 files directly (you only need to write the HTML and SWF code to load the file).

But if you don't want to install the latest version, you will have to transcode the file to the old flash video format, FLV. Tutorial here: http://eugenia.gnomefiles.org/2007/09/12/from-dvhdvavchd-to-flash-video/

For 720p, you will need to export at 24fps btw, because the older version of Flash has a cap at 24p, 720p at 2mbps. It won't load files higher than that in order to protect slow PCs (Flash is pretty slow you see).

thanks eugenia.

i'm assuming i have to convert my MP4 into an FLV before i can put it on my site (dreamweaver won't let me upload my MP4 via the flash option)

so in that case i guess i can forget about the MP4. i'll just render my video in pure lossless avi through vegas. then i will take that and convert it into a flv.

do you know what the best FLV encoder is? i want the highest quality and resolution possible.

Don't know if it's the best flv encoder (probably not), but I encode in After Effects. You might not have it though.

You can post your 720 HD clip on Vimeo.com and then embed the clip in a web page on your site for local play from the Vimeo server. The embed code is supplied on your Vimeo page. Vimeo likes the WMV format (Window's ver of the H.264) codec. Try rendering the clip with a bit rate of 1.5-3.0 mb dependeing on the content. Fast movement or action use a high BR.

Vimeo likes the WMV codec for it's flash conversion. Thye accept and play HD.

do this, go to www.freevideocoding.com select Flash(FLV) then follow the directions, you don't need to convert the mp4 files,it will read it and streams fast. look at this sample i have here

thank you
