Best way to remove wind noise?

I'm using Adobe Soundbooth CS5 and not having the greatest luck. Everything I do removes the lower end leaving the dialogue sounding flat.

The bottom line is you'll get a lot further preventing it getting into the recording in the first place than you will trying to 'fix it in post.' Noise reduction works best when it's dealing with a limited band of frequencies outside the range of speech frequencies. Wind noise isn't that tidy.

You don't have to get the $1300 version the $400 version will do most things very well.

OP the answer to your question is to use a zeppelin in the first place. Not what you wanted to hear but wind is "broad spectrum" noise ie it covers the spectrum pretty well. And it changes constantly (which the $1300 version of RX will help with) so it's very hard for noise reduction software to track.

The most you can generally do is cut out the lows as much as possible, then use NR software to cut out what you can of what's left.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I ended up using the "heat" view in SB and watched the clip play over and over until I pinpointed places I thought related to the wind noise. I then used the lasso tool and encircled those areas and dropped them by about -10 dbs. It works well enough, and the flatter sound certainly sounds better than the obnoxious gust of wind. ;)
