Best way to record foley?

I have a dvx100a (ocourse) a lav mic, and a hand held omni mic.

I have XLR inputs into my computer but they are not phatom powered, which makes things tricky.

I want to record foley but would hate to have to record to DV tape, then offload it onto the computer. Is there any better way? Can I use the DVX as a passthrough, and bring audio in on the XLR, then go RCA out to the capture device on my computer?

Is there anyway to do this without buying anything new? :)

EDIT: Second question: the mic i have is a sony ECM-44b. It supposedly either accepts phantom power, or you can power it with a AA battery. What happens if I leave the AA in and plugged it into the XLR on my cam? I don't want to just test it for fear I might blow something up.

Re: Best way to record foley?

Recording foley means recording the sound of human movement to picture. Therefore, you cannot do proper foley with the current setup you have. At the very least you will need a DAW (like pro tools) that can import video, and that you can record into, and edit in. If you do not have the means to do this, then I would suggest you hire out a foley stage for a day, or find someone who can do it for you on the cheap. I have done a fair amount of foley at may place, so you don't have to necessarily spend top dollar on a big foley stage to get the job done.

What are you cutting your sound in?
