Best way to output P2 footage shot w/mini 35 adapter

Hi, all -
Silly question, but I'm a newbie. I've just edited my short in FCP 5.1.2 and I want to know that best way to output the footage. I shot with the P2 in HD mode and the mini 35 adapter. Is this something I can do myself as a novice or do I need to bring in the big guns? ;-) I appreciate your help and patience. :dankk2:

DVD - just use compressor (or BitVice if you want to save some time). You should be able to create something just fine on your own there. If you haven't used the compression programs much you might need to do a few test compressions on small chunks of footage (to save time) so you can get the right settings. But other than that, it shouldn't be too bad.

Film - talk to the facility that is going to do the print. You should at least know what they want. Maybe they can take a quicktime movie you export and put onto an external hard drive and then do the rest themselves. Maybe they'll want you to output to D5 or such first and then they'll take over. Or perhaps they'll want the entire thing as a set of image files. The people doing the print are going to decide this one for you really.

cheers.

Thank you for your help. What's BitVice?

BitVice is a compression program. You can use it to take exported quicktime movie files and make them into DVD authoring applicable MPEG-2s. Again, its not necessary to have, but can be a time saver if you prefer to not tie up your system with compression encodes (at least so I'm told, I don't use it myself, just hear about it on the forum here quite a bite).

cheers.

Do you mean authoring high definition DVD's (HD-DVD and Blu-Ray)? I believe DVD Studio Pro can handle processing such. In Compressor I think you would need to use the H.264 codec and then DVDSP would work with those (haven't done it, so anyone wanna chime in on that?).

If you are still looking to make a regular standard definition DVD, single or dual layer, then the 1080i60 shouldn't be to a big a problem for Compressor. Just select the option closest resembling the time length of your project and let it handle going from HD to SD. At least that's the way I've gone about it and Compressor has done a good job for my needs. I've gone from 720p24 though to a SD progressive DVD. Haven't done 1080i60 to the a SD 29.97, which is what I imagine yours would end up as. But I can't imagine it'd be any kind of problem for Compressor.

cheers.
