hello everyone,

I want to make some supers/titles look different, rather than just put someone's name over the video during a soundbite.

I'm trying to create a small background for the supers to make them stand out a little more.

Do any of you have any specific tricks that you use to make a nice looking and unobtrusive background for names and supers?

Thanks!

Well, not sure exactly what you want, but between the media generators, bezier masking, and track motion controls, you should be able to come up with all sorts of things.

Thanks David...
yeah, I typically just use a block of solid black (if white text), position it with track motion, then lighten it with the opacity setting...so it's a dark blob under the font...I guess I was looking for more creative ideas and tricks that others had used...what can you do with the bezier mask?

You can cut out shapes, etc., to customize pretty much anything. Try it with some basic gradients or other generated media.

I agree, I would like to see some nice 3d looking generators like you see on those good ol mac programs...

Something like the news uses

Look at www.vasst.com they have GrafPacks one of which is a free download that has lower thirds for captions. They are $49.00 but the free download has 10 different types in cluded. Or as you and Jim discussed the media generators can make custom effects with masking, bezier and track motion.

I use Boris Red 4.3 for text backgrounds. Builds them automatically and has a wide range of options to customize. Not cheap, but works well. Boris Grafitti can do the same thing I think. Boris ued to come with the older versions of Vegas. Since pro-titler came along it's no longer bundled. I've tried the text with Vegas, but Boris is way faster and more professional for anything more than static B&W text.
