Best video format for WDTV Media Player?

I have a WDTV Live Plus Media Player. I have some Mini DV camcorder tapes that I captured with Vegas in the AVI format. If I were to convert these with Vegas into a format to store on a hard drive and play through the WDTV, what format would give the best quality. Size is not an issue, quality is primary importance.

The WDTV supports the following formats
AVI (Xvid, AVC, MPEG1/2/4), MPG/MPEG, VOB, MKV (h.264, x.264, AVC, MPEG1/2/4, VC-1), TS/TP/M2T (MPEG1/2/4, AVC, VC-1), MP4/MOV (MPEG4, h.264), M2TS, WMV9

I'd put my money on VC-1 or Mpeg4. However, Vegas doesn't encode VC-1, and doesn't do a particularly good job at Mpeg4.

My advice is to download the free WMEncoder program at Microsoft and use that to encode your videos to WMV. Vegas can do it, and it's decent, but WMEncoder is better in my opinion, and you said you care about quality.
