Best venders for pro. audio

After a recent and extremely bad experience using Amazon, I will never spend another dollar with them again. If it is a third party vendor, Amazon gives you almost zero support if there is a problem. It is taking me literally weeks to get a resolution, and more time than you can imagine, do an exchange on a $50 item in which I received the wrong merchandise from the vendor.

For audio you might try the DVestore or Trew. Coffey is another respected audio house, but I haven't used them.

I'm not sure there is a single best vendor Red.
I've never had a problem with Amazon and I spent a little over two grand with them this week...but I hear things once in a while. I also buy everything on a Corporate AmEx and they're good about taking care of problems.

The link you gave is for Sam Ash on Amazon. You can order from Sam Ash direct and usually get the same or better price.

I've had great relations with these people and they exchanged something last week for me that I screwed up the order on. They even picked up the return shipping and arranged a call tag.

Some of their prices are good and some, great...but the customer service couldn't be any better.

Thanks for that information. It's pretty much the same price everywhere for an NTG-1, 249.99. I guess what I'm looking for is the kit, but the ones I can find are out of stock or has more things than I need. Since I am attaching it to my DVX, what do I need to get with it? Is a shockmount different than just a camera mount? If somebody can compile me a list of the basic stuff I need to buy with it, I would greatly appreciate it. It shouldn't be more than the mount, and the XLR right? I'm not sure if the mount and the windscreen comes with it. I know the deadcat is not included, and I don't need a boompole right now.

Thanks again!

I've just made a cart on Front End audio, and it comes with a 25' XLR cable. My question is could I just use that instead of buying a 1.5'? Or would 25 feet be too much trouble for a camera mounted microphone?

The more cable you have, the better the chance you'll pick up some noise and you lose a little with each foot of length.

25 feet to go the 12 inches or so from the back of a camera mounted microphone to the mic input jack on the same camera?????? And where are you going to carry the roll of cable, hang it from a 'beener on your belt? Cum'on, a cable the appropriate length isn't THAT expensive!

The NTG-1 comes with a mic stand mount and a foam windscreen. You'll need an appropriate mount, preferrably a shock mount, to fit it to your camera. Something like this ... http://www.rycote.com/products/invision_video/ ... or this, to add further wind protection ... http://www.rycote.com/products/universal_camera_kit/ would do the job.

Sweetwater.com gave me an excellant experience, you get a sales rep assigned to your name, who knows what you are trying to do, and they offer plenty of recommendations on configuration. The payment plans are AWESOME (just don't get the Credit Card from them, it has a 27% interest rate!) and it is worth a call to find out if they have, or can get, what you want.

Check out the banners at the top of the page... there a bunch of great dealers that sponsor this site...and they offer additional discounts to members!
