Best under$300 lav?

Instead of renting decided its time for me to invest in a decent lavaliere for recording vocals I want to stick with a wired lab so that when I can afford it and get a wireless, it will still serve as a backup.

Can anything decent be purchased for less than $300?

If you want to switch between xlr and wireless, using the same lav, the Rode lav fits your budget. Rode has adapters, at a reasonable cost, to make the switch. The comparison tests I've heard have it sounding very decent, and will fit your budget.

There are other good lavs within your budget including the Countryman EMW and B3, and I think the Tram 50 is less than $300 also.

Thanks! Any chance you can point me to those comparison tests? Especially interested in the noise floor, etc compared to the COS11

Search DVXuser for member Chad. He has done numerous comparisons including the Rode Lav. Forgot, Rode also has the pin-mic which probably has the same innards.

Another affordable option is the Oscar SoundTech mics, The OST 801 and 802 are identical in dimension to the Tram TR50, the Tram and OST mounting clips are even interchangeable. OST's end-address TL40 is slightly smaller than a Countryman B3 and also sounds very good. Unlike Tram's expensive TR79, the OST Phantom Power XLR adapter is affordable and may be purchased so the mic can be used on a wireless or in a hardwired configuration. Sensitivity is similar to the Tram.
The mics are made in the USA (NJ) and highly regarded by film sound pros. OST's customer service is top shelf as well.
