Best TV series of the decade.

Biggest reminder right there about British TV: the original "Life on Mars" was absolutely brilliant and makes my top 5. The US Version completely farked it up and tainted its memory. Watch the original if you ever have to watch it.

Agreed. After viewing the entire British version, one and-a-half episodes of the remake was more than enough to see that it lacked everything that made the series great and offered nothing as replacement.

Apparently, the BBC is broadcasting a sequel called Ashes to Ashes.

I second Band of brothers, great production value and I really liked how they tried to explain the bonds that were created by that hatefull era.

I'm more of a comedy fan, so and I think Arrested Developement was fantastic.

Did anyone else like Prison Break? I thought the plot was great, though the acting and over-use of shifty eyes were a little distracting.

The. Wire.

(Please close this thread now.)

ditto

The Wire remains the best I've seen on TV, but you know, It's not TV, its HBO :)

also,

Band of Brothers
The Venture Brothers
Superjail
Morel Oral
Metalocalypse
ATHF

In terms of more mainstream TV,

Survivorman
Good Eats
Anthony Bourdain No Reservations
20th Century Battlefields
How its Made (I love the simplicity)

1. Arrested D.
2. Sunny in P.
3. Curb Y. E.

AD was doomed from the start because it's way too smart... Sunny is bold and funny... Curb is good as the idea guy from Seinfeld you expect it should.

two words:

Sponge. Bob.

I don't know if you're serious or not... but this isn't a half-bad answer.

Spongebob is to today... what Looneytoons was to our generation (30+ ages)... Spongebob is THE cartoon of the last decade (all artsy, tiny-audience stuff aside).

SB is hit or miss... but when it hits it hits hard. "Sandcastles" should get a cartoon emmy. There are tons of jokes hidden in SB that no kid is gonna' get... and another thing that's become really funny is how the show is playing with the accusations of SB being gay... if they aren't having fun with that... well... trust me... they are.

Some shows from this decade I really liked:

Arrested Development
Carnivale (I can't believe this hasn't been mentioned yet)
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Home Movies (technically premiered in '99, but went off the air after a few eps until 2001)
The Office (both versions)
Undeclared

You guys are mostly listing what appears on cable too. Of which I'd like to toss in I Shouldn't Be Alive, from Discovery. Deadliest Catch also has some huge fans.

As far as regular (four network) TV, I'd like to add Numb3rs.

Never could get into Lost, but definitely an inventive show. Someone may mention West Wing. Though I couldn't get into that either. The Shield and Alias were big hits that got good praise. 24 too. Law & Order keeps going strong as well. ER had an incredible run through early in the decade, and though the well ran dry, the last 3 episodes or so were true blue excellent.

Matt, I have 2 kids and I can honestly say that I am serious. Most of the time I can't stand kids shows, especially the 'tween' ones my daughter watches. But shows like Sponge Bob and Phineas and Ferb do the same things that the Pixar movies do: They remind me that good, entertaining story-telling can be simple.

My favorite episode is Karate Island...Nothing like a parody of Bruce Lee under water.

Best of the decade. Okay, I haven't watched T.V in 10 years but it feels like 20. No shi*.
I have no idea what anyone is talking about T.V wise and I guarantee you, I've not missed anything in my life because of it.

So......being the asshole that I am, here's my last memory of T.V....

...a few thoughts as I try to think.lol...

''I Love Lucy', 'The Three Stooges' , 'Bewitched' ,' The Honeymooners' , 'Leave it to Beaver', 'The Andi Griffith Show, 'Rat Patrol' , ' The Ed Sullivan Show', 'Carson',
'I Dream of Jeannie', 'The Friendly Giant', ...

oh jeez...and Burnett, man, it just goes on for ever. There was no shortage of talent back in those days.

Here's a few from my past.

Snowleopard mentioned The Shield. What an exquisite show: well-conceived and conveyed stories, fully-realized characters, camerawork that shoves you (the viewer) into their world. The same can be said of The Wire on a much grander scale. These are our tragedies.

1 - Battlestar Galactica
2 - Firefly
3 - Jericho
4 - Lost
5 - Terminator: Sarah Conner Chronicles (not the best, but I really enjoyed it)
