Best Tripod kit for under 2K?

That's a tough price.

Many tripods in that range are almost pro but not quite. Stay away from the Manfrotto. The movement is not really fluid in every respect. The Vision 3 and Cartoni are really friction heads. For 2G I'd check the trades for a used Sachtler 20 or something like that. Take a look at this: http://www.visualproducts.com/storeProductDetail02.asp?productID=410&Cat=48&Cat2=49 or this: http://www.visualproducts.com/storeProductDetail03.asp?productID=420&Cat=48&Cat2=52&Cat3=81

It'd be miles better than anything new for 2g.

I've used this one: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/459011-REG/Libec_LS55M2A_LS_55M_2A_Two_stage_Aluminum.html for over a year now with very good results. I gave it a shot based on a very good review of it's smaller sibling, the LS-38. They also make larger (and more expensive ones as well).

Features it's missing that I would like to have are:

1) Lower minimum height (like the 8" capability of the Miller Solo VJ CF)
2) Continuously variable damping (it only has two stages of damping; the larger ones have more stages)

Other than that, I think it's probably one of the best tripods in it's price range (<$1K) and been compared to ones closer to $2K...

Cheers,
