Re: best tripod for under $500?

501 or 503 if you can swing it.. that's the best your gonna get in my opinion under $500.

Re: best tripod for under $500?

I would check out the bogen wilderness legs with the 503 head plus the ball leveler attachment. Call Rush at EVS .It is just under $500.00 A brand new mic on the market is the Audio Technica AT897 they say just as good as the Sennheiser ME66 but for about $250.00 it is a great price. 8)

Re: best tripod for under $500?

If you can get the 503 then that would also be much more worth it. 501 is good, just not fluid, 503 is what you should aim for.

Re: best tripod for under $500?

Oh man did I say 501? I meant to say 503. I'll fix that right now! It is still the same price. Sorry about that. 8)

Re: best tripod for under $500?

hey guys, thanks for the reply. What do you guys think about the at835b in almost new condition with accessories for $150.00? Some local person has it for sale. Should I get that or the at897? I'll look into the 503 head, thanks everyone.

Re: best tripod for under $500?

I recommend the Bogen/Manfrotto 503 head with the 3181 legs. The 3181 legs are pretty solid and come with a 75mm half-ball leveler. The combination should set you back 500-something. You can get the accessory mid-level spreder for another $40, but you don't really need it.

You'll come in at about 450.00 or so.[/quote]

The only problem is that the 3246 does not have a ball leveler--an essential accessory (for me at least). I know it has a geared column, but I'm not sure if you can retrofit a half-ball.

I bought the Libec TH-M20 for $259 and am very happy with it. It's a two stage with a decent head and quick release legs. Their web site is

Re: best tripod for under $500?

You should get the ball leveler attachment also. then you would be set! I belive it is Bogen 3502. Next time you order from them give them a call . They give us a discount ! Talk to Rush.8)

Re: best tripod for under $500?

thanks elvis, i'll do that. I wonder if i call Rush he can still give me a discount for the tripod kit i bought today. I'll be spending a lot of money in the months to come so if he's smart he would ;), haha. Anyways, how much would something like that cost me?

Re: best tripod for under $500?

About $65.00 Talk to Rush. I bet he would give you a deal. Check out the thread under this topic page 2 Sachtler DV2 VS. Bogen 503 / 525 the last part talks about this set up! 8)

Re: best tripod for under $500?

You know I just check that out and I'm not sure about that leveler Check with Rush. I thought the one I saw was 6 inches tall with a mini ball leveler. I could be wrong I only saw it once. But some sort of ball leveler is needed for quick setups. 8)

Re: best tripod for under $500?

your right.. the ball is 6 inches and 75mm, and in my opinion an absolute must.

Re: best tripod for under $500?

3284 ... I cant stress how important it is to have it.

Re: best tripod for under $500?

O.K. That works with a ball head tripod. So Maybe the Bogen 3502 is the way to go. 8)
