Hey everyone,
So I recently came into the market for a tripod after purchasing the Glideshot jib and the WF-717 tripod via Emm's recommendation on Cheesycam http://cheesycam.com/4-ft-jib-back-in-stock/.
Unfortunately, the tripod/head combo he recommended really didn't work out for me. If you're not using a tripod head on the end of the jib, aren't using a battery grip for your 5DII, and don't plan on using anything beyond the 24-105/16-35mm lenses, then you're in good shape. My needs, however, stressed the head too much and I quickly broke the payload (and the head now wobbles).
I've considered purchasing the Kessler K-Pod and Hercules head, which would of course future-proof my purchases of larger jibs in the future (as well as other cinema cameras). However, it's 37lbs total and will probably kill my scrawny indie filmmaker's back. I looked into the Manfrotto 545B as well, but I was told bowl heads aren't the same. It does look like a viable alternative to the K-Pod, though, because the spiked feet seem to be compatible with things like spider dollies and other dolly platforms.
Anyone have great recommendations that could help out? I'm looking for something that can be somewhat future-proof, is relatively lightweight, and is quality-built.
Thanks for the long read!
Brendan
