Best Technique - Video to Photograph?

For the effect where there is a moving picture and then the image freezes (with the sound of a camera) and the screen flashes and halts on a frozen image...

Does anyone have a suggested technique that serves them well?

For the flash, I have been experimenting with video filters and with some large particles in motion but have not yet attained the desired effect. I think the biggest problem is reproducing the camera flash realistically...

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

For what it's worth, the best thing I've come up with is keyframing a very quick increase in the "Light Rays" video filter and then freezing on a B&W still of the video where the light rays come in.

Are you seeing the image in a frame? I did a shoot for a client where a little girl was on a swing, the image froze, and the camera pulled back to reveal the still in a frame on a piano.

All I did was shoot the video of the girl, export the still, resize it, print it, put in the frame and set it on the piano. I set up a jib, got the still in frame and pulled back for the reveal.

In post I added about 2 frames of white and a click between the swing video and the framed pic reveal. The two frames worked as a great transition, and I re-learned the lesson to never do in post what you can do for real in production. Client was thrilled and thought it must taken an immense effort and tons of effects.
