Best Technical "Behind the Scenes" List

Hello,

I'm a newbie in this forum, but wanted to start a thread asking everyone to post a list of DVD's with the best "Behind the Scenes" features. Many "Behind the scenes" extras are nothing more than extended trailers and promotional pieces that were used to hype the movie prior to release. Some are just interviews with the actors but show very little about the gear and process.

So, please, if you remember a DVD with a good "Behind the Scenes" extra that gave incite into the cinematography or at had lots of shots of the crew and gear behid the scenes, then please contribute to this thread.

Hopefully this will be useful to others, too. :)

Thank you.

I remember the Se7en DVD had quite a bit of good stuff-- digitial color correction and sound design were some I remember specifically.

the DVDs for Elephant and Last Days have extended fly-on-the-wall observatiosn of the crew at work, no interviews, no music, no b.s.

There was a feature length BTS all about the MAtrix called the matrix revisited. It had some interesting stuff.

Rodrigez has great BTS. I have even rented his Kid Movies for the commentary's and BTS footage. He is a very successful director who has a very Indie approach to film making.

Also Wolfgan Peterson does great commentary.

The HD DVD of 300 has an all green/blue screen window to compare what they did, with commentary from the director. Very very cool!

The Production Journal of Peter Jackson's King Kong.

2 DVD's worth of pure BTS, all pretty technical and definitely aimed at the filmmaker and collector rather than the general audience.

Yeah I like Peter Jackson's production diaries for King Kong as well, also the 2nd Pirates of the Caribbean movie has an hour or so feature on the making of the movie. I liked it a lot.

A History of Violence has about an hour of great BTS on the entire process of making the film. Not just technical but creative side as well.

Star Wars Episode III has by far the best BTS doc I've ever seen. It's called "Within A Minute", and it breaks down a 1 minute section of the film (from the "Mustafar" lava-planet battle sequence) into every element in its creation. It's 2 hours long, and goes through *everything* involved, and I mean *everything*...from catering to final print and everything between - casting, FX, model making, script, green screen, compositing, shooting, locations, gear...the works. It's narrated by the film's producer, Rick McCallum, who does a great job.

Highest possible recommendation...

That gives me a good excuse to rent this film again, which I'll happily watch itself as well. What a great movie...

Jeepers creepers two. The director does a "a day in the directors chair" kinda thing.

Any BTS where I can see the set and the equipment, is good for me

:)

i made a similar thread to this in another section of this forum, but obviously, lord of the rings is the king of this realm.

The Sound Design section of The Sixth Sense was awesome.

Sin City has got some cool stuff including a super-speed version showing exactly what was filmed on set (with green screen and in color).

Fatal Attraction has a lot of great stuff including footage from rehearsals and notes about the visual style choices.

Also, does anyone know of DVDs where you can hear the director talking to actors about the scene on-set? There was a small bit with Spielberg talking to DiCaprio in Catch Me If You Can, but I'm looking for more.

okay, this will be of little to no use to any of you, but here is some behind the scenes (fly on the wall type stuff) from Heart of Now... the more in depth, technical and creative behind the scenes coverage will be released after we do cast and crew interviews... but for now...

Behind the Scenes GAG REEL (12 mins.)

The Special Editions of: Ong-Bak / Tiger and Dragon / The fifth Element have pretty good making of's. One of the best technical making of's are on CORONADO from Volker Engel/Marc Weigert. They show and describe many of their FX-shots.
