I would like to open a discussion up to all about the best solutions in setting up storage both for the huge HVX200 media files and for creating a network in the home/small office to maximize workflow. I am looking to spend some cash upfront to set up a network storage solution that I don't outgrow every 6 months (overflowing with footage).
Here is where my head is right now after researching this the last few days but I want to open up to all to share the setups they like and don't like. With the awesome/huge resolution of the HVX200 media files, I have to imagine that we are all facing these issues constantly.
What I want is a Storage Solution that is...
My Setup: HVX200, Powerbook Intel Core Duo and older g5 Tower with IBM chip. Both running OSX10.4.11. Apple Airport extreme (have g but will soon upgrade to n and will get some gigait ethernet cards).
Peace,
Bolivar

What I want is a Storage Solution that is...
- I can run on my wireless network so all MACS can access all music, photos, stock footage, etc...
- AND also be hardwired into my G5 for HVX200 media ingest at high gigabit ethernet speeds.
- I'd also like it to be able to stream to iTV for footage and final movie viewing (am I asking too much?)
- Ready NAS NV+
- Pros:
- Does RAID 5 and is Hot Swappable.
- Seems somewhat MAC friendly
- Can keeping adding bigger drives as they get bigger for cheaper.
- Cons
- technical challenge to set up.
- pricey
- Not seamless with apple applications.
- Pros:
- Buy Mac Mini and a bunch of NewerTech MiniStacks
- Pros
- Mac mini is already apple formatted so seamless integration with network, itunes, iphoto, fcp, etc.
- Assuming it can just be set up to serve data and easily ingest footage with zero setup
- Cons
- Costly
- No automatic RAID 1, 2 or 5 backup so a bit more manual.
- Pros
- Buffalo Technologies
- I heard these are good but that's all I know. Assuming similar to ReadyNAS NV+.
