Best Steadycam for under $50

i think there was some confusion about the price of a steadicam. after scrolling down to the bottom of this price list, i see where you got the $50 figure from.

Just the shipping for mine was $73.... Don't even want to think about the total price...:Drogar-Shock(DBG):

I adapted a "cheap" monopod, purchased at WalMart for $15.

Comes with a nice padded grip and a pad already attached for camera mounting. There is a adjustable bolt on the bottom leg. I filed off the pointed tip. This allows you to attach a "weight" using the bolt and a nut.

Extended...it will put you way above the crowd. I'ts a little nerving putting your cam up that high...so I tie a safety cord to the cam...just in case the mounting screw would break.....hasnt yet.:D

Cross member handle can be about anything, from strong PVC to galvanized pipe. Works for me.

I think I have one leg shorter than the other. NO...steadycam works for me.

Maybe it's the caffine:2vrolijk_08:

Hello All, this is my second day in this forum and I must say, I never thought I'd even be able to offer a little bit. I've got a 100b on it's way and am trying to learn as much as I can before it gets here so I can hit the ground running.

That being said, I put this "steadycam" together about a year ago when the money to brains ratio was much different than it is now. I've been real fortunate since then and can start buying quality equipment. Back then, necessity was the mother of invention. I actually think the total cost was about $22 and it's really come in handy since then.

I bought a $17 monopod and a $2 free weight from Wal-Mart and a fitting used to repair water pipes and some random washers to cover the holes in the weights and some extra nuts to lock it on from Lowes for about $5. I broke the spongy hand grip from the glue so I could adjust it up and down to find balance. Hope this helps you. Good luck and keep shooting.

I ran downstairs and shot these holding it out in front of me with my wifes "vacation camera" so please, no making fun of the new guys lighting/photograhy skills. :cheesy:

Thanks for the time.

Mattie...

Looks like we have exactly the same monopod config.

Maybe we should market this..........how 'bout $999.99 ?:2vrolijk_08:

Sure does Jeff. :) Great minds and all. I actually think I'm going to "retrofit" my rig and go your way. I occasionally had some balance issues, having to rotate the weight around to find a good spot. Most could be done by moving that spongy part up and down though.

and as far as the marketing....

"Ladies and gentlmen....If you have used either ideas and concepts presented here by either Jeff or myself, please PM Jeff $450 and me 449.99 (marketing plan was his idea)
