best steadicam + follow focus for HVX200?

I'd like to get a decent steadicam and automatic followfocus for my HVX200, for making documentaries and music videos.

Does anyone have any recommendations for which ones to get?

I'm funnding this myself, so I'm looking for decent results with minimal cost :)

Yeah what you are describing is a remote follow focus and a good focus puller. There is a an autofocus system for 35mm lenses but its a prototype and its realllly expensive.

Good steadicam is a Flyer, good follow focus is a Bartech if you can afford it. If not have a look at my topic in 35mm adapters about a more cost effective solution.

In other words, hoarp001 is developing an really amazing remote follow focus. Check it out here.

But with 35mm adapters, nothing can keep a moving subject in focus other then a focus puller - No matter if you have a fancy Remote follow focus or if you're just pulling right on the lens.

Basically, theres no autofocus in the 35mm world.
 
The cheapest automatic follow focus that I know is from cmotion...
You'd have to use their cfinder (laser distance measurer) and the rest of their wireless FF system for that to properly work. This system would be in the thousands of dollars.

However, there really isn't such a thing as an automatic follow focus. Now if you're shooting without a 35mm DOF adapter... you really have no need for automatic follow focus. The HVX will take care of that for you. If you are, then you probably want to look into something like the Bartech wireless FF and having a focus puller to control focus while you operate the steadicam.

Really? I'm getting a G35 and HVX200 and they are arriving soon. I thought I would need to manually focus the 35mm lens to have the subject in focus , as you do on a SLR camera? Is this not the case?

If you reread that post, you'll see I said if you're shooting WITHOUT the 35mm DOFA... you won't have a need for a manual follow focus because the HVX can autofocus internally. This is common with most steadicam shots. Unless you're a big hollywood film with wireless transmitters, wireless follow focuses, etc. etc... it's really a lot easier to fly the HVX with a wide angle adapter or just the camera itself.

The HVX autofocuses verrrryyy sssllooowwwlllyyy at 24p. It's basically unusable, and almost certainly so for steadicam work...

I haven't tried it, but I'd imagine like most camcorders it's pretty much ok at 60i.
 
I got a glidecam smoothshooter and Glidecam Pro 4000 last week, it's suprisingly good! I like it, It takes the HVX weight VERY VERY comfortably.
