Best star wars fan film ever?

Seems like it would fit right into that live action TV show they were planning. I mean obviously this is not the most top notch stuff ever. The writing is just as bad as the prequels in my opinion. Still a very solid effort, considering most other star wars fan films suck ass. The villain in this wasn't that great either. I'll probably still watch part 2 when they release it. Also, they should have left Darth Vader out of it, that gets kind of tired.

I disagree. While the writing isn't perfect, it's not difficult to surpass the prequel's writing. *spoiler* I like the idea behind the story, a beacon of hope, a symbol for the resistance is something as simple as a lightsaber.

I concur. I used to be a big fan of fan films. I also used to surf the force.net fan films forum a lot. But now I look and it's difficult, where awful merits of work get heralded because they had great lightsaber effects-

This one really tried to push it, to make it a real star wars fan film. Most of the fan films that have a lot of prod value put into them, lack so much more. Look up Star Wars: Revelations. It was a big project, with loads of people working on it, and it got a lot of buzz because it had huge sets, loads of extras, full costumes and set design, etc... when it came out some people loved it. I saw it, let me tell you it was awful- from every technical and aesthetic stand-point, it was just bad. All they had going for it was nice special effects and prod design, which is why it was being held high on a pedestal.

Anyways, they did a great job here. Some problems here and there, but by far the best fan film I've seen to date. Waiting for the next one-

I dunno. I mean not sure if he's going to make an appearance, but Vader is a prominent figure in Star Wars history, especially during the empire reign. He was used as the fist, he's the other symbol, he's being used to create fear amongst the people.

Ditto. I heard the buzz, checked it out, and shut it off after the first couple of minutes. It was just terrible.

Frankly, I've never seen a Fan Film that seemed it was worth the time invested in it. The best stuff are the spoofs, like Troops and Chad Vader. The same goes for the other side of that coin: the Star Trek fan film. People hail New Voyages like it's the second coming of Gene Roddenberry himself, but every single episode I've seen is trite, clichéd, and had terrible lighting and acting. Everyone who has been involved with the official Trek franchise who has gone on to work on this piece of sh*t should be ashamed of themselves.

CG and bad acting is what kills these movies unfortunately

Yeah. Really bad. It's the CG that I find the most disturbing in these films. Acting is pretty bad as well. I would think that they would stick to the basics while keeping the CG to an extreme minimum on these low budget fan films.

Fanfilm makers don't seem to get that there's much more to Star Wars than Jedi. And that just because you CAN make light saber effects, it doesn't mean you HAVE to.

Troops and Blackstar Warrior are hands down the best.

I don't know if this should be considered a fan film or a spoof or if there is even a difference. Either way, it's a nod to the franchise. And my favorite one at that...

---I also love the way this mimics "Shakespeare in Love" which was huge, obviously, the year before this was made.

My favorite to date. Awesome! Shot very well.

"Maybe you just weren't meant to write agricultural space tragedies."

So good.

Meh.

All that time and effort into something that will go nowhere.. the acting is bad.. the story is really craptastic. It looks quite nice in places.. but I shut it off rather quickly. The voice over put me to sleep and I just didn't care..

George Lucas in Love is fantastic, I really love that film. There are some good fan films, but there are a lot of bad ones. Troops is hilarious too.

I'm a big Star Wars fan, it's what got me into filmmaking, and I've written two books on the franchise. I have to roll my eyes at the negative prequel comments. It must be interesting to be clueless about great storytelling, I guess that's really all I can say. They are incredible films, life would be a lot less grand without appreciating some of the best films of the last 20 years. Shame, really.

For all it flaws this gave me the old star wars feeling way more than I-III (well, III had some decent action scenes but shouldn't have taken three films to hit its stride). That said its essentially an extended trailer and its potential (which won't be realised) is the real source of excitement. I think they might be firefly fans in their spare time too.

How could you guys forget the Star Wars Kid??? I still piss myself watching it! Plus all the crazy redux versions.
That kid ended up having to drop out of school, go to child psychiatrist and move to the other side of the country.
At least that's what the internet says.

So it is the second coming of Roddenberry . Sorry, couldn't resist...
