Best Sports Movies

I loved The Sting, great film. All The President's Men was great. I'm a huge fan of The Natural. Three Days of the Condor is a great film, and I think that he is a very talented actor. I even liked Spy Games as well as Sneakers.

I think he's full of himself and his Sundance festival isn't the indi fest that it was meant to be (Hollywood productions debuting crap there does not constitute an indie film in my opinion). That being said, The Way we Were sucks. There was all this hype about it, and it's supposed to be this great chick flick. I rented it back when I was trying to sleep with my ex fiance, and it didn't work at all. We just stared at the screen saying, "this is supposed to be some great film?"

OK, totally off topic.

Street Racing is sort of considered a sport, so I will put The Fast and the Furious as the best street racing film, although that's like saying that I'm the best American Curling fan because I'm the only one...

Just for the record, I'm not a curling fan at all.

Man, if you ever read "Down and Dirty Pictures" by Peter Biskind about the rise of Miramax and Sundance, you'll dislike Redford even more.
But can't say I liked them due to Redford; know what I mean ? He just comes across as a p*ssy to me. LOL
Cheers.

Edit : And the BEST bike street racing movie IMO is "Full Throttle". It was made in Hong Kong.

Wasn't this discussed in a thread already? For the sake of the sport movie discussion Golf is as much as a sport as curling, hose back riding, card playing, shooting pool, bowling, fooseball, or football

Hmmm, there's never been a fooseball movie, imagine what Fincher could do with that, the camera following the ball through the map...

I love golf (although golf doesn't always reciprocate said love.)

I have heard this debate raged for years, and have decided that I don't at all mind its not being classified as a sport.

Golf is a game...the finest game ever devised by mortals, to be sure...but a game none the less.

Golf is indeed a great game and one I enjoy very much; I presume I'll become an avid player (which I was between 98 - 2000 until $$$ became an issue) onec again

Yeah; my wife was trippin.

I golfed at a few of the Military courses in San Diego (Miramar, Coronado (Supernice) and Admiral Baker) and then the USCG I.D. Active Duty card went bye bye.

:(

GOlf is stupid expensive

I Golfed at Torrey Pines on my 'Marriage Day'. This is where they hold the BUICK each year; Killer course ! I even birdied a PAR 3 !

For awhile there (before the family came along) I was golfing and scuba diving religiously...
talk about $$$, that double threat cost me a pretty penny I can tell ya.

I have a buddy who is a golf pro, so I get bstock balls at like $3/dozen. They are the logo type, but he gets them shipped by the truck load, so that makes it reasonably affordable. I finally accepted that better clubs wont make me a better golfer, so I don't lust over clubs any longer. There is a course here in town where you get 18 holes for $20 on weekends, so it's not as expensive. I only play nice courses maybe 2-3 times a year and then I use coupons that you can get off of lastminutegolfer.com or cheapgolf.com.

I still consider people like Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh athletes who play a sport, but to me it's just a game that I don't play very well. Over the last couple of years I've actually gotten my game down to the low to mid 90's. The key to golf is to calcute your game to the green and then once you're on the green. To the green I'm profressional, once I'm on the green I'm a solid 25+ handicap. That's just pathetic... The ball doesn't want to go to it's home...

Stupid game.

I got certifed diver back inthe day but have'nt dove since like 1995 (Shame really). Diving is the shiz; went down 120' once. That was trippy. Just literally stood there looking up. HAd some Groupers come by me once; larger than GODS creation and scared the beejeez out of me LOL !

I still stand on firm ground on that whole GOLF and ATHLETES and it being a SPORt thingy. I know it pisses people off; but it's simply my opinion. But I do like it.

Wow ! Yankee? 90's ?

I've never broken 100. 114 is my lowest ever I think ! (Never had lessons either so............................ I dont know)

I'm also TIN CUP style so it doesnt help my game. I like to go for it.

John, I'm with you about the former avid golfer. I used to play 1-2 times a week (on affordable muni courses), but since I've moved to Chicago, I play 1-2 times a YEAR. I really miss the game - but it was almost a distraction at times. I would get really obsessed with it even though I suck. I'm very happy to break 90 - usually shoot mid-90s. I've never worked so hard at something and gotten so little in return as far as results. Still love it though.

I got as far as night dive certification (also back in the 90's).

I wanted to try my hand at cave dives, but couldn't find anyone (a buddy) as crazy as myself willing to give it a go.:Drogar-Thinking(DBG

I still say that what scared the bageebers outta me wasn't sharks nor baracudas...but those Goddamn Morey Eels (especially when one of those buggers would suddenly pop his head out of a piece of tube-shaped coral as I swam over.)

...Oh and then there was the time I ran into a legion of jellies near an old mini-lighthouse that was located on a tiny island near the Dry Tortugas.

I've never been scuba diving but I've heard its a great experience. Personally I don't like to swim or the water a lot, so it's never been something I've gone after. I've always wanted to go sky diving though, that sounds like a lot of fun.

My iron play has really changed my game... I took a couple of lessons and they helped a bit, but, as embarassed as I am to admit it, Hogan's Five Lesson's book and the Golf Channels clinics really helped my game the most. My iron play is pretty solid and I have really solid control over my clubs. I also added a 2 iron that I will tee off with whenever I feel like I can't control my driver. My problem is once I'm on the green I three to four put a lot. Getting to the green is really easy for me, but once I'm there I can't play worth a damn. I've tried the belly putter, the long putter, even those goggles (waste of money), but nothing helps me with my putting. I even took a putting class at this driving range here in town and I still suck at it.

The key to golf is just getting out there and doing it. There are a couple of guys who I work with and we'll go to the driving range at lunch once a week during the spring and summer, that's always fun.

Either way, Tin Cup... With any other actor I could appreciate it, with Costner it just bothered me...

Tonight I am seeing A History of Violence, really excited about that (and Canada is beating the US 8-2 right now in the WBC [XM at work rules]). Holy random comments.

Costner just bothers me. That's the reason I didn't like Field of Dreams. I liked No Way Out, Bull Durham and Open Range IN SPITE of him. I think I probably feel about Costner the way Hudson feels about Redford.
