I have Audition, but it seems impossible or tricky to have sound panning around. Does anyone recommend anything for doing dynamic 5.1 mixing?

Well, I recommend Cubase SX or, if your needs are ultra-sophisticated, Nuendo. But you can do this in Logic or Protools as well (and I believe Sonar, but I can't speak to that as I don't use it). Are you on a mac or pc?

I'm on PC. I do have access to Pro Tools, I'm no expert yet, but maybe I'll give it a shot. I've heard great things about Cubase... seems Pro Tools is more pervasively used throughout the industry though. I've also heard about Nuendo, but not very familiar.

Thanks for the recs.

I'm assuming you also have premiere too? Premiere is capable of handling 5.1. Never needed to do 5.1 yet but I'm pretty positive I've seen the feature.

I mix all my audio in Cubase SX.

Vegas is another NLE that can do a 5.1 mix (and the DVD authoring tool includes an AC-3 encoder so you can actually play it).
