What is the best shotgun mic i can find for under $500? It will be used for commercials, docs, narrative. indoors and outside

What is the best mic and where can i get the best bang for my buck

Look about four inches above this text, a little right of center. Click where you see the word "search". You will find dozens of threads full of loads of great information on that very topic.

"... Indoor: AKG C300B/CK93 $400
... Outdoor: Audio Technica 4073 $550"

out of those two what would you say is better at both

Winter: Columbia Sportswear Eskimo Parka
Summer: Lucky Brand T-Shirt

Good for both? Maybe a Lacoste Track Jacket, but even then, one size does not fit all.
I'd say get a baseball cap!

usially in pawn shops -there are allot of hot deals :-)

I am not even posting links to threads anymore because obviously it does no good.

Go to my thread: One Mic To Rule Them All

That is the only set up where one mic will work for every situation, but even in that case, it is not really one mic. To answer your question, which is asked every day, there is no one mic that will work in every situation. Sorry, but it's that simple. You use a hyper indoors (get an Oktava or AKG or Schoeps, hell even an ME64). For outdoors, get a shot gun, take your pick, but do a search, you will find every make and model discussed.

Actually, I have a better solution for you. You don't even need to buy a mic. Just use the one built into the DVX. It's better than anything else you can buy anyways.
