~*Best Settings (MUST POST STILLS)*~

Hey e'rbody. I'm shooting a feature in a few months and wanted to know what are the best setings for a horror movie. I've got my own settings, but I want see other ones, for inspiration. I'm looking for a SCREAM/Halloween H2O-esque look. The settings that I got, have a When A Stranger Calls kind of look to it. Please post your settings along with a still. It would be much appreciated. THNX!

Re: ~*Best Settings (MUST POST STILLS)*~

People are reading WAAAYYYY too much into this scene setting feature. There is only so much one can accomplish in camera with those settings. Additionally, you can hardly categorize some combination as "horror" as you have put it.  Think about it, what does the scene setting give you? color temp:nothing spectactular here, can be better done in post, ped:the black level? who would ever want their blacks to be washed out? Tint: okay.. go ahead and shot an entire movie with skewed hue and see how much acclaim you get, sharpness:nothing useful here really.

So as you can see, most settings ought to be left on or around default, you'll get an awkward looking picture otherwise.  If you shot your raw footage as neutral as possible, you can get much better result making the adjustment in post. Maybe it's just me, but I really think this scene file feature is over hyped.

Good point Booggerg

Concentrate on exposing the shots properly.

I'd worry more about Production Design and Shot Style then SETTINGS. Pay attention to the LIGHTING style as well. There is one all be all magical setting as your locations and lighting conditions will change. What works in one scene might not in the next.

Then, later in POST you can play around to mimic H20 or even the original Halloween for that matter!

I think what John meant is that there ISN'T any "one all be all" setting.

so much for that...

They are all right though. There is nothing special with SCREAM or H20. Those looks are the same looks you have been watching for the past 10 years of teen horror. It's just particular lighting.
