I work for a TV news station that is migrating all field newscrews to FCP. Problem is we have to be able to create .mov files of news stories (shot on Sony EX1R's in HD) that can be transferred via thumb drives or portable hard drives to Windows PCs so they can be FTP'd from remote locations. Some of the .mov's we've been creating transfer sound but not picture or the files are either very low quality or extremly large files that take a very long time to create/transfer. Is there a happy medium of say 55 megs for a two minute piece that's still high enough quality for broadcast? Could we\should we be using .avi or other files types for this process? Sorry if this is newby question . We are a Windows shop, but the powers that be thought it would be "really cool" if we used Macs in the field for editing.
