This is my first time transfering from mini dv to MacBook Pro and FCP( thru a fire wire).
When I saw the video it wasn't a good quality.
Can somebodu help me and recommend what are the best setting in FCP usin "Log and Capture". I'm doing a short fil and we are planning to show it in the big screen I could appreciatte somebodies help.
The video looks blocky specially when there's a movement.
Thank you.

Just use the DV NTSC 48kHz preset. You're not going to "create" more quality by changing it to something else. Once its shot, its shot, you can't invent new pixels (well not real ones, interpolated ones well that's a different issue).

As for the look, does it look this way on an external monitor or just on your laptop? Computer monitors, of any kind, are meant for editing your story, not for quality control. You need to use your DVI (or even firewire) out from your laptop to some form of external monitor and then examine it from there. You might also want to consider getting the Matrox MXO I believe it is. Several contributors on this forum have spoke quite well of it as a laptop solution. Good luck.

cheers.
