ok, well i have a 35mm adapter. And of course im looking for the best possible film look i can get. And ive gotten great stuff already. But i always have the question, what are the best scene settings? As far as detail level choroma etc..should i use cine gamma d or v? should i use cinegamma at all, or normal? now i know there probably isnt one answer to this but i would def love some suggestions on how to create a really good film look. And maybe what works best for you guys.

what camera are you using?
And you're right. there is no best.
Are you good at cc and grading in post? can you get someone who is?

Interesting, should we boost our details levels and stuff like that...?

I gues shoot and test is the only way.

I found that this setting works good with my 35mm adapter (HVX200)
Anyway i use a denoiser plugin to clean up the too noisy camera

Recording format 108025P
Shutter angle: 200
Detail level +4
V detail level +4
Detail coring +5
Chroma level -6
Master ped -11
News gamma OFF
Gamma B.Press
Knee High
Matrix Cine-Like

.

Hmmmm, detail is boosted super high must look pretty nice! What adaptor are you using?

What adaptor are you using deckardScott1980? vbmenu_register("postmenu_1031956", true);

I'm not sure if I'd be shooting with my detail levels up that high. Could possible be why you might see more noise than you want to?

Your Master Peds quite low as well.

Right now I am shooting with a Brevis and a DVX100A.

Detail +4
V Detail 0
Coring +4
Chroma +2
MPed -6
Cine-Like
Matrix Flou

Chroma Phase and Color Temp change with every scene depending on WB and the look I am going for. This isn't final but I am liking it for now.

For a while I was shooting the DVX with the pedestal at 0 and gamma set to Cinelike_D, with the detail settings turned all the way down (and coring turned all the way up). I really just wanted to get as much dynamic range and as little noise as possible, and add in any sharpening in post.

Lately though I've been more pleased using slightly modified F6-style settings; no major changes, just Normal gamma, pedestal around -6, detail at -4. Not quite as neutral as the other settings, but I found they made things just a bit too washed out and flat, even with CC. The dark areas in particular get pretty noisy with a high pedestal, and you end up crushing them somewhat to get rid of it, which puts you back where you would've started with a slightly lower pedestal anyway.

But as always, the best thing is to do some tests and see what works best for your process and what you're going for.

hmmmmmm I see more and more adapter shooters at detail +4 lately? When I get mine Im goin to have to try it!

What else changes with the adapter?

ok good to hear all of your input...im also wondering would shooting cinelike gamma and matrix be the best thing to get better film like results. I see a lot people shooting more with normal. Just want to see if anyone has tired that or tested that out.
