Best render for DVD on HDTV

I'm finishing a project that will primarily be watched only on a 52 inch HDTV. The footage is 24p uprezzed from the DVX. Would rendering it as a basic Mpeg-2 24p widescreen yield the best results or is their another setting/template that will look better?

That template (DVD Architect 24p) is optimized for standard DVD. The only video on a standard DVD is MPEG-2.

Whatever it may be. The orginal material is SD. I dont think uprezzing it in vegas is going to help that much. If you have a good dvd player with uprezzing capability. You can directly playout using the HDMI out to the TV. Or DVI out. Depending on what hd input the tv has. Or you try cable converters for a work around. But there is no getting true hd clarity. Out of standard dvx material,, 24p or not. If your looking at a dvd its basically SD. So it will look a bit foggy. If you had shot with a hdv/hd cam. Then there are alternates to your problem. Even if you cant burn to blueray etc you can still play the hd resolutioned file from a computer or a file based HD player thereby getting a very clear pic on the HDTV.

You say the video ws uprezzed? Uprezzed to what size and how was it uprezzed. Photozoom, Instant HD, Another plugin, or just stretched. I ask this partially out of curiosity.

The WMV format is a great way to display original HD content on a computer for example, or using one of the newer SD DVD players that play DVD's (data formated) with slideshows of pic's as well as WMV files. Generlly here you would edit and output at 1280 x 720 24p.

If you uprezzed your DVX SD project to say 1280 x 720 you could output a WMV file that easily plays on a computer in Windows Media Player or on one of the newer DVD players. Of course you could uprez to 1920 x 1080 as well but most computers would not handle that although I believe the aformentioned DVD players could

I mention this because you say it will play primarily on a 52in HDTV which sounds to me like this is a display or training type environment with really one primary focus for the project. You could attach the HDTV to a computer or laptop and loop the video or invest in one of these newer SD DVD players ($90-$120) that play image (jpeg, gif, bmp) and other types (WMV) of computer files as well as Mpeg2 DVD's.

Using the WMV template as HD 1280 x720 24p you can play with bitrate, etc. to get the best output although you may not have to. The display quality is really dependent on the uprezzing process you chose. I have used the Photozoom method to uprez standard 4:3 DV to DV Widescreen. I have also used Instant HD to uprez DVX output to mix with HD source footage in a 1280 x720 24p HD project with very good results. The DVX video I used had little motion, a stable background, and was well lit.

Hope this helps.
