BEST QUICKTIME EXPORT SETTINGS?

Okay!
What's the bext quicktime compression setting?
I usally halve the size and Mpeg-4 it with a mono mpeg-4 audo mix...
What's the best bang for your buck?
I'm sick of sending someone a link and having them say "I can't see it" or "I think it's broken."
This is purely for online purposes...

the settings u mention captain is this only for webbased viewing. what u recomend for dvd.

I recommend that you use Compressor's 2pass high quality encode. Here's what I do.

File - Export - Quicktime Movie - Current settings - Don't check Self-contained.

Open compressor and drag that into the window. Set the preset to 90 min High Quality Encode (90 minutes is a good rate... based on 90 minute dvd... if you have to go longer use the 120 minute, but try to stay away from the 60 minute one... just too 'noisy' for my taste.)

Sorenson 3 is the best web-encoder, hands down (in my opinion). Get the Pro version, which gives you much more options and delivers smaller files.

I once encoded a 10-minute video+audio, 500x333, that ended up being seven megs - and it looked beautiful!

Capt, how do you use that web preset app. you have on your idisk? Do I drag it onto cleaner or something? When I double click on it, nothing happens.

I had to drag the file onto it....
But I see what you mean...what if you're exporting str8 from FCP?

So basically you export your file from FCP then drag that export onto the "mench icon" and it encodes your file for the web? So that would mean this little app of Captain Mench's is a small version of cleaner or the like, right?

guess so...it worked for me..I'm not too familiar with cleaner...I do know that the file inturn uses compressor to compress the file...I don't know for sure, but since he called it a 'preset', I'm guessing that the file is only really like a recipe for Sorenson compression settings using Compressor...like a template or something. Looks good, whatever it is.

This thing you downloaded is called a droplet... a small applet from Compressor. It is actually using Compressor but is a small 'preset.' If that makes sense.

Yes it is drag and drop only. There is a way to use this droplet to create a preset inside compressor, but I forget how to do that.
