Best Quicktime Compressor?

[dglasgal]

Anyone have a favorite quicktime compression codec that can compress alot of video while keeping qualoity high that, when posted online as a quicktime .mov, anyone who downloads the free version of quicktime can use to see?

I'm using Sorenson 3, but not getting great results.

Are you just using the presets or tweaking the settings? I find Sorenson great but I don't use the presets...

H.264 is quite good.

I actually just got the new squeeze sorenson package and it is great, many output formats and does a much better job than regular sorenson 3 codec that comes with quicktime pro. H264 is great and all, but not many people can view it.

kai is correct about H.264. I was showing someone some M2 footage I shot using the new cinescreen where I did a slow tilt with a very very slow focus pull on a table top shot and Sorenson 3 Pro collapsed a horizontal line on a yogurt label to a point where it constantly strobed up and down severely. The same shot compressed using H.264 was ten times better.
