Best program for stripping audio from video

Has anyone used a good program that really preserves the integrity of the audio from video? I tried taking the video and putting it directly into the audio track in my editing software but no dice. So I had to convert the file to audio and then it worked fine. Just want to make sure that there isn't some uber-awesome product out there that does this better than the 10 dollar variety of software available online.

Thanks!!!!

when you said your editing software are you referring to an audio editor or video editor? most audio editors will do this. you lay your video track down and delete the video part for it. in sony vegas you just right click on the video track and delete it. in sony acid you do the same. in premiere you have to right click on the video and click unlink to separate the two tracks and then you can just delete the video track and render it out uncompressed if you just want the audio. so it really depends on your editor.

I think Quicktime Pro is still 29.95, and can transcode, or modify a number of things having to do with various file formats. Predominantly MOV formats, but there are some add on plugins that allow it to deal with some set of the Windows container files...

In particular for audio, it can export in PCM WAV format, or others like AIFF, with various selectable options.

Yeah, I don't have one of the higher end softwares -- just rockin Corel's 120 dollar version so I have to use a separate software to strip the audio (as what I have is video software).

thanks!

You don't say what platform you're working on, but FFMPEG should do pretty much anything you can imagine wanting to do with audio / video files. Google for "ffpmeg" and whatever platform you're on.
