Best program for making a soundtrack

Hey guys,

Well I've tried a few programs like Cinescore and Apples Soundtrack. Just am not too happy with them. Cinescore is still in its infant stage IMHO and Soundtrack is pretty cool but I can usually always tell when something had been done in Sountrack.

Was wondering what everyone here uses to score thier movies aside frome using independent artists.

Thanks

Some people use Garage Band... Some people use Acid... Depends on the one of the film. You could have a nearly completely electronic track using something like Reason if thats the feel you're going for. Or you could use Logic Pro and samples etc to create something really good.
A lot of the stuff I do myself, I record myself or others playing the parts...

I used Soundtrack Pro, Logic Pro, ProTools and Nuendo. I like Nuendo: since version 3 no problems with videoplayback, great program to mix or to do big orchestral arrangements. quite expensive.

eatsnax: whats that typical soundtrack-sound you can identify (which I couldnt...)

i think the experience and the workflow are more important than the program...

there are a few truly great books out there...

david yewdall just updated his already great book to an amazing book now that it is a bit more current.

"Practical Art of Motion Picture Sound"

and another even more specific book is

"Dialogue Editing for Motion Pictures"
by john purcell.

i can't recommend these two books enough...

when i go out of town for more than a night or two i usually load up and wind up bringing half a dozen books that i've been meaning to fully read cover to cover, rather than to just read parts of it as needed and i'm in LA and i brought just these two books and if you take the time to read them cover to cover you can really learn a lot, or relearn things you knew but perhaps come away with a much better understanding? or even a new understanding?

i use adobe audition 2.0

it is far from perfect, i have spent a little bit of time with adobe soundbooth beta's but i have had projects where i just didn't feel like trying to use a beta for something where i KNEW i could get it done and done pretty well using audition.

Forget about Garage band it's for amateur, people knows when the soundtrack is made with that program it does sound like preset from Garage Band. I use Logic for composing music and Pro Tools for editing.
