Best practices for archiving flash based media

What would you recommend as best practice for archiving media?

We are a University video program with approximately 50 students per semester shooting and editing. I'm not quite comfortable with students fussing around in Disk Utility. I do want to at least inform them of 'real world' best practices despite our ability to support it or not.

Thanks

Michael

Or in the very least mastering your final timeline to HDCAM or HDCAM SR. In the end, it still has to go back to tape or film. Hard drives, solid state or spinning are not archival mediums. They are acquisition, and deliverable mediums. Every major studio and production house is still ending back up on tape, one way or another.

Schools can't afford high end all of the time.

But if you are talking about archiving the RAW footage...on the cheap side, hard drives. On the more stable but expensive side, LTO tape backup. Personally...as an individual, I can't afford LTO, so I get two hard drives and archive to both. Manual raid 1...redundant backup. Better than nothing.
