best possible workflow/method for DVD...?help

seems to be the case that DVD is inferior to other forms of video viewing. Inasmuch,
I'm looking for "solid" workflow from FCP to DVD studio Pro with the best possible picture.
seems like things get so much brighter on TV, therefore, losing its color luster and
showing more grain. (sidenote- any thoughts about DVX100 not handling blacks very well or something....cuz that seems to be where the issue mostly is)

so far my workflow has been:
1.uncompressed QT out of FCP (looks great at this point)
2.in DVD Studio Pro, applying the uncomp. file (8gb) as a track for play. (still great)
3.burn DVD
4.play on TV

Looks acceptable I guess on TV, but blacks seem to turn into dark grays, grain is more noticable everywhere except for really bright shots, and overall, the video is much brighter, which is probably the cause of the rich, color loss. :(

PLEASE HELP US ACHIEVE AN OUTSTANDING DVD PRESENTATION

You need to "color correct" or (at least ) change the contrast and/or brightness settings of the video footage in your editing timeline to adapt the brightness of your final DVD images to the viewing TV settings. I've found that many TV viewers boost the brightness/ contrast settings on the TV so I need to adjust the footage to allow for blacks and detail in highlights. You might check your TV settings...

Export using Compressor... you will have a lot more control over the compression than in DVDSP

Also be sure to color correct with an NTSC monitor so that you know how it will look in your final product. The canvas window in FCP is not meant to be accurate (and it isn't).

Sort of an expansion on one of the earlier comments, remember that all TV sets will look different. How many people at home actually properly setup their TV sets? Run the DVD into a calibrated broadcast monitor. If you feel you're still seeing color shifts, then as also mentioned, color correct with the DVD ouptut in mind. Alternatively, if you're not having a lot of luck using FCP-Compressor-DVSP, you could always try an alternate compression choice; BitVice-apparently comparable to Compressor and faster or Flip4Mac Episode-apparently not a lot better than Compressor, but is another choice and offers swf exports I believe. Good luck.

cheers.
