Best Portable Quiet Under $1500 Generator

GFIs can be a huge pita. As much as they are a great idea, I have had them trip all by themselves on moist days here in the Pacific Norwest. They come in different sensitivities, can't remember the numbers just now, but make sure and get the slow-blow types.

Propane is a great fuel, but you will lose 10-15% of your power since compressed gas product have less BTUs than gasoline, or you will lose economy if the conversion allows more fuel into the engine.

Since I don't have money to hire a gaffer on a day to day basis, would it be better to learn how to gaff or just do without a generator and do everything battery powered? The main problem for me is as I have found out generators are a great option since there is almost no way to power everything off of battery power such as lights etc and you can power more off of generators however if they are not safe then its better to pay the extra money for led lights or something.

Memes... here they come. One simple does not learn "how to gaff". If you're looking for advice, I'm sure a gaffer out there wouldnt mind sharing some wisdom. You're really better off renting a generator. Or deal with buying a somewhat loud construction genny and lots of stingers... Lots of them

Why rent a generator? Why not buy one? Because the Honda Inverter Generator would be a grand or 2 each anyway so would a safer generator really be much more expensive? And I am unfamiliar with what you mean exactly by stingers?

!

A stinger is a film set name for an extension cord.

I agree that the champion genies are much louder than the hondas.
I've also found that the 1k and 2k versions are much more quiet than the 3k. The 1k and 2ks are impressive but the 3k is starting to sound loud.

As for how to learn to gaff, I'd get the Harry Box: http://www.amazon.com/Lighting-Tech...343692832&sr=8-1&keywords=lighting+technician
I would also suggest doing some free intern work days for a gaffer if you can find one that will let you.

Well if you have the funds to buy a good Honda one, then go for it. But for a grand or two you won't pass 2000 watts (I think, havent checked prices in a while). I think with money you get silence and reliability, I've heard those "quiet" diesel generators break down easily. I'd hate to drop 2000$ on something to have it refuse to start after a few hours.

If you rent one you'll be sure it will start, it will stay running and it will be as quiet as promised. That is IF you need over 2000watts

Stinger, extension cord, power cable. I feel like I'm on the 48hr film project haha. Call them whatever you'd like, there are no strict rules. Terminology police doesn't exist
