best place to buy a lense

That's the older Canon FD mount. I use those lenses. Great for adapter use but not compatible with the newer EF mount like that on the 7D or 5D. Will work with a GH1 though.

well just be aware its a canon FD mount, not their new more recent EF mount. It will not mount natively to a 7d, there are however great adapters out there you can buy and its really great glass with a nice smooth focus being it was before the days of autofocus.

thanx again,
three questions...
1.will it work well with the DVX-sg blade?
2.how do i know from the site if a lense is new or an older version?
3.would you advise me to go for it?

you can use it with the blade, but you'll need a FD mount, i know letus and redrock have them so i assume SG will as well. The way we knew it was older was because it said FD and the new mount is EF, just somthing you kinda gotta learn but as you do you'll recognize it almost automatically.
Its a good lens, i like the breach lock version with the silver lock, so i've never tried this one, i can only assume its the same. its nice and fast

as i don't know which lens mount you bought when you bought your sg, it all depends. they do make an FD mount, so if yours came with oh lets say a nikon, you could always buy an FD and put it on your current unit. Or vise versa.

Those adapters don't work well. When Canon designed the EF mount they made sure that their old FD glass could not not be adapted to work on the new mount by making sure that any adapter would need additional imaging element to work. This meant that the performance of the lens is degraded markedly.

Oh, my mistake. I've got an adapter and have done some stills with the 5D, i love it, but never shot a res chart or anything too critial

AIS refers to the series of the lens, you'll need to look up that particular one. (52) probably refers to the filter size.

If you are going to spend that sort of money I would go with a Zeiss ZF 50mm F1.4. Can be purchased from B&H in New York for $550US brand new with 2 year warranty.
