Best PC specs for Vegas HD editing?

Apologies if his has been covered before. Does anyone know if this computer will be of high enough spec for editing HD footage from an HVX200 in Vegas..

AMD 3000fx, 1.5gb ram, 200gb 7200rpm HD.

I also have another PC, it's a P4 2.4, 1gb ram, but it's about the same speed as the AMD. I'm going to be editing music vids and a comedy sketch show for channel 4 so I'm just concerned that these specs are not high enough. My guess is that a Raptor (10,000rpm) 32gb HD, 3.5Ghz P4, 2.5gb ram might be needed, but as I've never edited HD I could be wrong, so advice from those experienced with editing HD is most welcome :)

Thanks

The Raptor is a serious waste of money for HD editing. I have a 10K Raptor and a RAID 0 of SATA drives and the RAID is twice as fast at linear read and 5x cheaper than the Raptor. The Raptor is $2.19/mb and the RAID is $0.40/mb. There is just no comparison. An SATA RAID 0 is the way to go.

I would get an AMD X2 Dual Core. Either 4600+ or 4800+ (I have a 4600+). The AMD 3000fx will be barely adequate. Of course you could use a utility like GearShift and edit DV proxies on your existing PC and then swap to HD just before you render. I still use GearShift even with my Dual Core AMD because HD is just too demanding even on the fastest processors.

My system specs are on the PC Equipment page of my web site.

New intel processors are coming out in weeks and you'll see the AMD chip prices drop significantly...WAIT.
