Best Over-Ear Headphones under $100 (in Canada)

"I heard that over a period of time they may become uncomfortable, then again I heard it was comfortable"
-- I would suspect the Shure HPs would hold up good. Then again, everyone's head is shaped slightly different, so what's comfortable for me may not be the same for you. I would recommend trying a set out before buying. If possible, rent (or borrow) a set for a day or so.

I want to try them out locally first. These are American stores. Plus shipping, probably even more than $135 locally.
Any Amazon is not allowing me to purchase things from the .com site. I need the canadian version, but then thats even more expensive @ $145
It says in my original post I need them locally

I found Phillips 'The Stretch' at Best buy here in the US , and in my opinion from owning both Sony 7506 as well as Sennheiser HD280 both of which are considered as production standards, and I prefer the Phillips over either. and I believe they float around $79 at Best Buy here in the US , they may have same up in Canada.

Good luck

+1 for the Phillips Stretch.

Based on your first post on those HPs, I got me a pair, for my fieldmixer/camera.
On bigger productions I have a sound guy and he could not belief what he heard out of that cheapish cans - on the next gig he showed up with his own pair
What I really like is not only their sound, but also how rugged they are.
I had them in streaming rain, snow, dust dirt - you name it - without any problem.

Good to hear some one else found the Phillips and that they worked out for them as well. Hidden treasures they are.

Yeah, I wish you could have seen the face of my sound guy.
I handed them over, he cringed and said "snowboarder cans huh?"

I told him to shut up and give them a test ride.

LOL - the rest is history.

Made my day.

I work at a company where we do professional AV installs, we are also a touring production company company, so we are full of people that are considered to be very well seasoned sound professionals and I get the same reaction when I let them listen and I specifically play Led Zep 'All of my Love' and with these HP there is an acoustic guitar track that jumps out that most people have never heard before, even tho its almost 40 yrs old if not more.

Shortly after they song gets to that part you can see the same "WTF?" look everyone gives because they had never heard that part before, needless to say I know of at least 6 other sound guys here at our company that have now purchased at least 1 pair and most have bought 2.

Trew Audio in Toronto has Sony 7506 for $99.

The problem with the 7506's is their hyped midrange that tends to turn a lot of stuff into a sibilance fest. But that hype is exactly what makes them great field monitoring cans where you can appreciate that added cut through, just not something that I'd look for in reference cans (not that I would use any pair for reference work). If I run the same mix/track through our Mackie HR824's, there is no sibilance in a given mix/track I'm working on in post. Same can be said when I run a mix through various "home stereo" speakers.

If you're looking for a great way to enjoy various sources, then I'd honestly recommend custom mold IEMs over traditional cans - but you're gonna pay for 'em. I've got a pair of quads from 1964 Ears that I use as a musician and they are phenomenal. Very detailed, very true, and very isolative due to their in-ear design. Great to use away from the stage while kicking back listening to Pandora as well!
