Best output settings for big screen

Hello,
Just recently screened my latest feature "Still BitterSweet" on a projection screen at a local high school and it looked horrible and dark. (In some scenes). My film was shot using the Sony Z1U60i, downconverted to SD using FCP. The footage looks absolutely great on TV. Just wanted to know if there were settings I should be using to get at least a decent picture on big screen. All suggestions/help is welcomed.

YOu gotta set up the projector and adjust the settings before you screen. They are notorious for being bad...especially at high schools.

To extend this thought, you also need to make sure the TV you are using is properly setup as well.
