Best non-Mac NLE to use?

I am wanting to purchase an editing system for my PC by the end of the year and wanted to hear from those non-Mac people what is the best one to use. I currently use Final Cut Pro and like it a lot, I am just wanting to "expand my horizons" if that is the correct phrase.

I hear some of you talk very highly about Vegas. I haven't heard many people talk about Avid Express DV. How do the two of those compare? I have Premiere and haven't really liked it the times I have used it. I have also taken a class with Avid, but don't have a lot of experience with the less costly Express DV one. Which one would be easiest to use if I already know a little FCP?

Opinions? Suggestions?

Best bet is to download the demos and try them for yourself. You'll get as many opinions as there are users, but only you can decide what's best for you.

Agreed. They both have demos, so try 'em out and see what your think. Or to save time, you could just download the better NLE--Vegas and save some hard disk space :-). If you're cool with the Vegas interface (and some people are most definitely not), nothing else compares for power and features at the price point. The audio features in Vegas are in a class by themselves. Vegas will also run well on any decent computer--you don't need a superbox to get the benefits of realtime previews and smooth operation.

The Avid systems are great if you buy into the hardware/software packages or if you're planning on climbing up the Avid foodchain, the software-only packages are a good place to start. Also, some people like to be able to say, "I edit on an Avid".

I didn't know Avid and Vegas had demos. I will have to check them out. Yeah, I am definitely not able to afford a whole new system like some of those Avids with the hardware. Price is a consideration here.
