Best mouse for FCP

Hi Guys,

Can anyone recommend a good mouse for using FCP 5.1? Ill be using a MBP. Ive been looking at the mighty mouse from apple as the 360 degrees scroll button seems like a good idea, (and I like the minimal design!) yet it seems to get pretty poor reviews due to its non-ergonamic design and the way the left - right buttons work.

Any advice from FCPers out there?

Cheers

The Apple mouse stinks. I get rid of em right away when I buy a new Mac- even the Mighty Mouse. I normally use Logitech's 3 button laser mice, they are cheap and good. If you have a Powerbook, consider getting a travel sized bluetooth mouse.

I agree, I can't stand an Apple mouse, I prefer trackball's, but any good 3 button mouse from Logitech or Kensington should do you fine.
I really like the Trackman, too. Just rolling the ball around with my thumb.

I love my mouse with the wheel... VERY handy when you are rolling over anything with numbers or sliders... frame accurate.

Absolutely, gotta have that wheel  A ball for the thumb and my middle finger operates the wheel.

I have always used Kensington Optical Elite. Great drivers, nice feel, very durable (one travels with me around the country every month with my laptop), scroll wheel can switch from verticle to horizontal scrolling when you "click" the wheel (very handy feature), 4 buttons (I use the left side button with my thumb as double click), scroll wheel/button, very nice.

My best advice would be to go play with them in a store somewhere. I can't tell you how many of my consulting clients and students buy them on-line based on a text discription, only to get it in the mail and it's too small, big, awkward.

Go see them in person, get one that feels good to YOUR hand. Make sure it has two buttons and a scroll wheel.

I have a wireless logitech MX700. I love the thing! It has some other buttons on it that I never use and to this day am not sure what they are used for! LOL! Editing with this mouse is a breeze.

And make sure it comes with it's own software. The software should install a Systems Preferences panel where you can set what each button does. If it isn't totally programable, don't get it.

I have the microsoft mouse (I know) 5 button mouse, the two things I love is that I have program the scroll button to suttle, as well as start stop, and the two side buttons are my in and outs. The more buttons the beter.

Ya know... the apple might mouse and keyboard are pretty and all... but functionally, they aren't so good. I tried to be a purist for a couple months... but the bad connectivity with the apple bluetooth keyboard and the sucky, sticky trackball -- glitchy right-click and non-ergonomic shape -- led me to my new set-up. The Logitech S530 Laser (wireless keyboard and mouse, built for Macs).

I immediately fell for it. It is so great compared to what I've been putting up with. I'd say replace both the keyboard and the mouse with this!
