best monitor for video / film production?

Does anyone have any idea what the best monitor(s) is for video / film production?

I know that different monitors look completely different, for example, I used to have a viewsonic 19" where I simply could not calibrate it to look right, and it messed up my images and colour correction. However, my viewsonic 21" VP201s showed colours much better and was fairly easy to calibrate (althuogh greys appeared slightly pink and this was a slight problem).

So I'm assuming there must be better monitors and worse monitors known to the professional community.

My budget is no more than the apple 23" display in £.

For color accuracy on a budget you should either look into a ACD with Matrox MXO setup for HD or a BMD Intensity Pro with a used professional Sony or JVC CRT for SD work...
